Peter Lovesey

Peter is a local crime writer who has set several of his books in Chichester and the surrounding area.

His first payday as a writer came at the age of 15 when he won a competition for an essay on the history of Whitton, Middlesex, where he grew up. His description of the grave of a local 8th century murderer showed a morbid fascination with crime which has continued to the present day.

His first crime novel ‘Wobble to Death’ was puiblished in 1970 and by 1975 he had become a full-time writer. Many crime novels and short stories followed, notably his series set in Bath and featuring Detective Peter Diamond.

Peter has received many awards for his writing including the Cartier Diamond Dagger for crime.

‘Cop to Corpse’ also set in Bath, is now available in paperback and his latest, ‘Tooth Tattoo’ is now out.

Peter spoke to the society again, his third visit, at the October 2014 meeting.
